Rivalry Football Game Cancelled Due to Harassment

By Zion Ligi, September 12th 2024

Timpview and Provo are rival teams who do not like each other, nor want to be on the same field with each other. Everything is usually handled on the field, but some people resorted to bullying online & started making “spewed hate & violence” towards players, coaches, & families.

After an email was sent late Thursday night to Timpview High School principal Momi Tuua, she announced to cancel the Timpview vs Provo football game. After both principals met up & had a talk, they decided that the game would not be made up during the season.

But, after police found out what was going on, they decided to trace back the phone, which lead back to a juvenile suspect. The matter was screened by Utah County Attorney’s juvenile division for possible charges.

Tuua's email stated that the messages we’re directed to Provo High Football Team and “appear to come from Timpview” violating Provo City School District’s bullying, harassment, & hazing policy, also stating that the threat’s made we’re all individually based & not directed to the broader community.

Many people were saddened due to the cancellation of the game, especially that they can’t continue with their traditional rivalry football game. Both Timpview & Provo have strong football programs, and their athletes are well prepared for this high stakes matchup. Every play call is executed with precision, & the intensity of the competition is evident in the players faces. Coaches on both sides make strategic decisions, hoping to outmaneuver their rivals and secure the victory needed. The game often comes down to the wire, with each team fighting for every yard & every point. The rivalry adds an extra layer of excitement, as players are not just competing for a win, but for pride & honor.

Beyond the game itself, the Timpview vs Provo rivalry fosters a sense of community & tradition. For many students, alumni, & residents attending, this game is a cherished tradition that brings people together. The rivalry is more than just a football game; it is also a celebration of school spirit and

community pride. Whether in victory or defeat, fans leave the stadium with a sense of belonging & a shared experience that strengthens the bond within the community. The Timpview vs Provo rivalry is a testament to the enduring power of high school sports to unite & inspire.
